Part of a series 8-34
The juxtaposition between the strength of the man emerging, and the vulnerability of the child, is examined in this portrait. In Australian male culture it is considered manly to not show your feelings, to put on a strong exterior at all times and not show any weakness. This culture demands a mask of toughness. The physical signs of change are evident but it is the eyes that reveal the conflict, strength, vulnerability and strength of character. Seeing ourselves reflected, and reminding us all of the rollercoaster ride of being an adolescent.
